A monastery situated 395 steps up from the foot of the hill north of town, Khao Chong Krachok features a small pagoda and a troop of playful monkeys, with highlight on a panoramic view of the coastline and seascape.
Honour where honour is due, the first post of this blog will be devoted to Khao Chong Krachok which might be the most emblematic attraction in Prachuap.
Whether you arrive in Prachuap by road or by train, before you enter the city you’ll notice the hill and the temple on its top. Of course, a visit to Prachuap Khiri Khan wouldn’t be complete without visiting Khao Chong Krachok, so you will most probably be willing to climb it and enjoy the view.
Before we start our ascent, you should be aware of two things :You’ll need to climb 396 steps (some other sources say 395, i’ll let you verify by yourself). The hill is the home of a colony of macaques which are not the friendliest monkeys around. That said, there no real danger climbing up there, just avoid to carry food if you don’t want to be surrounded by 10 hungry monkeys trying to rob you. You could also carry a stick to discourage any attempted mugging.
