The Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan temple has strong ties to Thailand’s late Ayutthaya period when it was originally built.
A modern building in traditional style, the temple is one of the largest chapels in the country, and also home to one of its most sacred figures: the Luang Pho Buddha Sothon, a Buddha statue that, according to legend, was floating down the river during the Ayutthaya period. Believed to help with harvests and possess healing powers, the Buddha figure attracts crowds of faithful, so visitors get to experience an authentic, (very) active temple - there’s even a chance of seeing some traditional dancing next door!
